Love – Maulana Jaami (‘alayhir ar-rahman w’al ridwan)
O Messenger of God! If only like the dog of the Companions of the Cave,
I could be in Paradise among your Companions.
Is it right that their dog is in Paradise while I am in Hell?
He was the dog of those Companions; I am the dog of yours!
Saif ul Malook
This is a Sufi book of verse written in Panjabi by Mian Muhammad Bakhsh Qadri, an arif billah of the 19th century, from Kashmir, extremely popular in the whole of Panjab. It is a spiritual masterpiece of Sufism like Mawlana’s Diwan or Masnavi.
Here is a sample of some of his most famous verses with my transliteration and translation:
Awwal hamd sanaa Ilaahi
Jo maalik har har daa
Uss da naam chataaran waala
Har maidaan na har daa
First, all praise is for Allah
Who is the Lord of all
He who recites his Name
Never will lose in any field!
Mard Allah day sirr e Ilaahi
Ay kooii bhaid niraala
Ikko nazroon saaf banaway
Mera murshid damree waala
(Real) Men are the Divine Secret
This is a strange mystery
With one gaze he can purify—
My Spiritual Guide the Damri Wala
Har mushkil dee kunjii yaaro
Hath mardaan day aayii
Mard nigaah karan jis vialay
Mushkil raway na kaarii
The key to every difficulty
Is in the hands of such men
When they look at you just once
Difficulties no longer exist!
Vah kareem Ummat da waali
Mehr shifaat kardaa
Jibrail jiehay jisday chaakar
Nabiyaan da Sarkar da
Bravo O you gracious protector of your Ummah
A sun which intercedes
The likes of Gabriel are his servants
-The Chief of all the Prophets!
Nur Muhammad roshan aaha
Aadam jaddoon na hoya
Awwal aakhir doway paasay
Oho mal khalooiya!
The Light of Muhammad shone
When Adam was still uncreated
Both stations of First and Last
He alone occupies alone!
[This refers to the Sunni belief that the Prophet was the first creation of Allah and the hadith of the Prophet, “O’ Jabir, the first thing Allah created was the noor of your Prophet” and the hadith, “I was a Prophet whilst Adam was still between water and clay” and many others support this; the verse also alludes to these hadith. The Prophet was thus the first to be created of the Prophets and the last to be sent.]
Isa khaak unhaan day dar dee
Gin tayammam kardaa
Taiheen dast e mubarak usadaa
Shaafii har zarrar daa
Jesus takes the dust from his doorstep
And makes his ablutions with it
That is why his blessed hand was
Able to heal all the sick!
Kee kuchh naat tussadee aakhaan
Khalqat day sardaara
Laakh salaat salaam teray tay
Laakh durood hazaaraa
How can I laud you?
O Best of all Creation!
Millions of blessings upon you!
Billions of salutations upon you!
Sukhan nahin koii hunda mehkee
Terii shaan qadr daa
Taha tay Yasin Ilaahi
Sift tusaadee kardaa
I have no words of praise
Commensurate with your status
“Ta Ha” and “Ya Sin” The Lord
Calls you with these qualities!
Bahut izzat lawlaakii tehnoo
Kii main sift sunaawaa
Aal Ashaab samait salaama
Hor durood puchaavaa
”But for thee” is enough praise for thee
Which qualities of thine can I add?
Millions of blessings be upon you
And upon your Progeny and Companions!
(This refers to the hadith qudsi, “Lawlaka lawlaka maa khalaqatul aflaka” and “Lawlaka lawlaka maa khalaqtul duniya” (But for thee (O Muhammad sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam) I would not have created the heavens) and in the second version “..the world”.)
Aal Awlaad terii daa mangtaa
Main kangaal ziyaanii
Pao khair Muhammad taiin
Sadaqa Shah i Jilani!
I am a mendicant of your descendents
I am penniless and sinful
Give me some charity
For the sake of Shah Jilani!
(Shah Jilani i.e. Shaykh Abd al Qadir al Jilani al Baghdadi, founder of the Qadiri Sufi Order and the greatest of the awliya by consensus after the Salaf till the coming of the Mahdi alayhisalam.)
Wah wah meeraaN Shah e Shahaan daa
Sayyid Do Jahanii
Ghaus ul Azam Pir piraaN daa
Hai Mahboob e Rabbani!
Bravo O Chieftain, King of kings
Master of Both the worlds
Ghaus ul Azam is the saint of saints
And the Beloved of The Lord!
(Ghaus ul Azam: (Arabic: al-Ghawth al-‘Azam: The Greatest Succour: another title for Shaykh Abd al Qadir al Jilani.)
Rehmat da miinh paa khudaaya
baad sukaa kar hariya
booTa aas umeed meri da
Karde mevay bhariya
Send a rain of mercy O’ Lord
Make the land verdant after being parched
Cause the plant of my hopes and desires
To become fruitful again.
MiTta maiva bakhsh jiya
Qudrat dee rakh shirin
jo khaavay ro usdaa jaaway
door hovay dil geeree
Give me such sweet fruits
Place natural sweetness in them
So that whoever eats thereof, his anger vanishes
And his sorrowness departs!
Lakh varii jay itr gulabon
Toiiyay nit zabaanaa
Naam unhaa day laaiq nahin
Ki kalimay da kaana
If you wash your tongue a thousand times
With the attar of roses
It is still not worthy to say His name
What then of the Kalima?
Main neevan mera murshid uccha
Te main ucchiyaa day sang laii
Sadaqa jaavaan unhaan ucchiyaa taaii
Jinhaa neviyaan naal nibhaaii
I am lowly my spiritual guide is high
And I have linked my end to the high ones
May I die for such lofty ones
Who have protected the lowly ones! http://hquk.wordpress.comhttp://www.youtube.com
The Hilya of the Prophet صلي الله عليه و سلم
Selections from the Salam of Ala Hazrat Imam Ahmad Riza Khan Barelwi
Transliterated and translated from the Urdu by Asif J Naqshbandi-Jama’ati Acknowledgements: I would like to thank Sidi Abu’l Hassan al Ridawi for his helpful suggestions and corrections. All existing mistakes are solely my own. Shaykh Mufti Muhammad Shafi’ Okarvi Sahib (alayhirahmat) whose book, Al Dhikr al Jamil Fi Hilyatul Habib al Khalil [The Beautiful Remembrance: The Hilya of the Beloved of the Friend] better known as Zikr e Jamil was the inspiration behind this little effort, also has my eternal gratitude. May Allah perfume his resting place! Amin!

B. The English translation
[Note on the meter: Although English and Urdu poetical meters do not correspond exactly, I have tried in my translation to reproduce the meter used by Ala Hazrat Imam Ahmad Riza Khan by using the English iambic hexameter [Alexandrine] as it approximates the meter used by Ala Hazrat fairly well in this case. Of course, it is not an exact replica as stated and where the translation flowed better otherwise, I have taken liberties. The translation is not a perfect iambic hexameter either: I have used lines of twelve metrical feet but taken liberties with the iamb!]
Wheresoever it fell, Life itself was revived
Peace be upon that life-bestowing gaze
Whom did he see? Let someone enquire of Moses
Peace be upon the courage of one with such eyes!
Those ears which can hear from both near and from afar
Peace be upon that mine: rubies of charismata!
How delicate the petals of that holy rose!
Peace be upon the exquisiteness of those lips!
From his clustered pearls, radiate those roots of light
Peace be upon the enchantment of those stars!
A mouth whose ev’ry word: divine revelation!
Peace be upon the fount of knowledge and wisdom
Its water makes both spirits and gardens verdant
Peace be upon the moisture of such a mouth!
From it saline wells became sweet like syrup
Peace be upon that sweet, clear, spring water!
A tongue which is known to all as the key to `Be!’
Peace be upon its effective commandments
Countless blessings upon his lov’ly oratory
Peace be upon his heart-enticing eloquence!
Countless blessings upon the pleasure of his words!
Peace be upon the majesty of his sermons
A beard of pleasant length, a salve for the heart’s wounds
Peace be upon the halo around the rarest moon!
A beard around the mouth – striking loveliness!
Peace be upon that beard of the stream of mercy!
From it are flowing streams of milk and honey
Peace be upon the freshness of such a throat!
Lofty nobility from shoulder to shoulder
Peace be upon the majesty of such shoulders!
The Black Stone of the Ka’aba of the heart and soul!
Peace be upon the Seal of Apostleship!
No partner, sum total, matchless, unparalled!
Peace be upon this unique, solitary pearl!
The arm oblivious to the weight of both worlds
Peace be upon the power of such an arm!
Two pillars of the Ka’aba of Faith, Religion
Peace be upon the two wrists of Prophethood
Wherever his hand was raised he made others rich
Peace be upon the waves of this Sea of Bounty
Fountains of light do cascade, and rivers flow out
Peace be upon the miracle of the fingers!
The crescent moon of the Eid of Succour glimmered
Peace be upon the good news of the fingernails!
Loftiest blessings on his zikr’s majestic glory!
Peace be upon the cleaving of leadership’s chest!
Your heart is beyond my ken but I shall say this:
Peace be upon the bud holding secrets of Oneness!
The world’s his dominion yet he eats barley bread!
Peace be upon the contentedness of that stomach!
`Twas tightened with the intention of Intercession
Peace be upon the protection of that waist!
Messengers do bend their knees in their presence
Peace be upon the dignity of such knees!
Antiquity: his essence’ stem; grace: his palm tree’s branch
Peace be upon the candle of the Straight Path!
The Qur’an gave an oath by the dust of thy path!
Peace be upon the reverence of such a foot!
The shadow of mercy of his shadowless stature
Peace be upon that extended, kindly shadow!
He whose turtledoves are the birds of Paradise
Peace be upon his erect height and his stature
The heads of the rulers remain bowed before it
Peace be upon the crown on his towering head!
Dew from Truth’s garden: beads of sweat from his face
Peace be upon his pure veracious brilliance!
Fragrant blessings be upon such delicate fragrance!
Peace be upon such lovely, lovely refinement!

Poem by Habib Umar
Praise to Allah owner of great provisions who honours & supports us
rememberence of the apostle is medicine cure for all ills who loves(rasool Allah) all sadness dissolves.
my lord by the pure one (arrasool )light of darkness grant us worthy provisions
so we attain always purity & perfect tranquility (within)the tight fortress of Ahmed(rasoolAllah)
on him Allah’s mercy and peace forever always whenever the one with lust (spiritual)achieves his desire.
and on his kin and companions (mercy & peace)the noble guides especially the door of medina (seyyidina Ali r.A.a)
and the part of the apostle (seyyida fatima) i have placed with her the lock of a hidden treasure
by her we achieved our requests and goals and our situation became good
and her offspring (aal-ulbeit) those of great nobility by them we achieve firm faith

Baghdad shaher de tukre mangsan Bahu ! karsan miran Miran Hu!
I have no souvenirs of Baghdad except wounds, long and deep.
My body and soul have been cut to pieces, like the clippings of a tailor.
I’ll wrap a shroud of these clippings around my neck and join a group of beggars.
I’ll beg for Baghdad’s scraps, Bahu, and cry out “Miran! Miran!”http://www.suffahfoundation.com/http://video.google.com/

O Allâh, send Salât and salâm (blessings and peace), on our master,
MuHammad (SallAllâhu `alayhi wa sallam); all avenues are closed, come to my aid O RasûlAllâh! (SallAllâhu `alayhi wa sallam)
imâm yûsuf nabHânî notes:
this is a du`â taught by RasûlAllâh SallAllâhu `alayhi wa sallam to
the muftî of shâm, Hâmid afendi al-`imâdi in his dream, when one of
the damascene veziers tried to arrest him. this is a proven du`â for
succor and deliverance from distress and affliction.
when he recited this du`â, Allâh delivered him from his distress.
ibn `âbidîn and others have mentioned that they tried this du`â and
Allâh gave them relief and aid. i’ve tried it and, Allâh has given
me relief too. many of our brothers have informed me that they’ve
tried it too and found succor.
i have mentioned other benefits of this Salât in my book `afDlus
Salawât, `alâ sayyidis sâdât’; one may look up there if he wishes
