Q & A : Hadra with Music in Naqshbandi Haqqani Silsila

Source : http://sufi.forumup.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=1054&mforum=sufi

Q (MuhibulNabi):
3sallam o 3laikum,
Can a anyone from Naqshbandi Haqqani Silsila of Sheikh Nazim explain why they have music in the zikr / hadra sessions.

Hazrat Sheikh Bahauddin Naqshband never permitted any music during Zikr and also his method of Zikr was Zikr-e-Qalbi. Not the Musical one in Haqqani Zikrs. If this is the true Naqshbandi Way then why is this deviation from the Sheikh's Amal?

A (kibrisi):
Alaikum salaam,
Mawlana is teaching Naqshbandi to those who are on that level and he is training others accordingly. He said to me Naqshbandi Hatm is for high level Hacegan people. For those new comers youngsters he teaches through other Tariqah. Mostly Qadiri, Mewlevi. By using this more involving Dhikr type "loud Hadra" he is giving basic introduction for higher levels. Now tell me what is wrong with that ? A Proper Naqshbandi Shaikh can teach in any tariqah till the murid is ready for Naqshbandi.

Q (B A S):
Assalam Alaikum Kibrisi
I have a question I hope you can answer,
You said Sheikh Nazim teaches in an other tariqah as required, do you mean he uses the methods of the other tariqah on an individual basis or by group?
Can you expand on this ,it's very interesting.
I noticed the Hadrah being done in the u.k. for last year approximately during or at end of Zikr sessions, can you explain a little bit anything Sheikh Nazim has explained about introduction of Hadrah. (am I correct that "Hadrah" means "presence"?)

A (kibrisi):
Wa Alaikum Salaam
Bismillahirrahmanirrahim.
My Dear Brother
I dont know the meaning of Hadrah ,I might even be spelling it wrong.
Middle east -African people call it this way. The name I know and use for this kind of Dhikr is Cehri-stand up Dhikr. It is widely spread in Turkey.
Halveti, Cerrahi, Kadiri, Badawi people do it. It is more involving for new comers and for people who are not deep in Tariqah. As you should know
The Real Naqshbandi is the top tariqah and it was mostly widespread and practised and benefited by scholars (Khawajegan, Hacegan) and elite people. MAWLANA Sheikh Nazim being a proper Sheikh obviously is not shy or restricted by using other Dhikr styles. At the end of the day we are still making ZIKRULLAH. He is aiming to involve more people in Zikr, specially youngsters who are full of energy and they are not really ready to sit down and make rabita and tefekkur and HAfi zikr for hours. Saying all this he is not stoping anyone from doing so and carrying on with what they have ben doing so far. A proper Sheikh, a proper Master can, may and does use any kind of Tarbiye (training) on his Murids. Mawlana once said " to be a Naqshbandi Murid you must come to me with two Keramet (miracle) and two Halvats (seclusion), one for qadap (anger) and one for shahwat (lust)" And we all know not many people fit that description.
The Master takes you from the lowest point you are and trains you accordingly. Most exclusive spritual training would be through Naqshbandi but first you must become a Naqshbandi. I hope this was beneficial and sufficient for your question
wasalaam

Q (B A S):
Thank you for your reply Kibrisi!
I took Bayat some years ago into this Tariqat, and met Sheikh Nazim when he came to England doing talks back in the '90s.I am however definately still a beginner with ALOT to learn.

Could you expand on what you mentioned about:
"" to be a Naqshbandi Murid you must come to me with two Keramet (miracle) and two Halvats (seclusion), one for qadap (anger) and one for shahwat (lust)"

Not quite sure what it means.

A (kibrisi):
Dear BAS,
salamu alaikum
Bismillahirrahmanirrahim
Let us try and open it up little bit.
What it means is clear. Our Sheikh is obviously Naqshbandi and he teaches Naqshbandi . But to be a student you must reach a certain level. And during your Tarbiye this is what you learn.
Let me try and give a different example.
Naqshbandi is like a very exclusive School. From primary level to acadamic university level. But the real teaching is in the University level and to reach that University level we go through primary, secondary high school etc. During our initial education we learn more or less the same things (commom tariqah knowledge) and Sheikh teaches this as he likes.
We have 40 haqq tariqah in Islam and Mawlana uses them as he likes.
When a murid reaches the level of the University (Hacegans) he attains certain qualities otherwise he is not going to reach that level, and those qualities included are minimum 2 seclusions to take control of his Qadap and Shahwat and minimum 2 karamats . Although we are in the exclusive school of Naqshbandi only Mawlana knows what level are we in, whether it be primary, secondary or the high school. But the real Naqshbandi teaching starts in the Top level of your learning cycle because this is the way of the Awliyas, This is the way how saints get trained in their sainthood.

Q (B A S):
Salam Alaikum Kibrisi
Thanks you once again.
I think that's clearer now...

A (kibrisi):
alaykum salaam
you are welcome brother
